Now that you've created your Amazon AWS SES account, it's time to move it to production mode and make it fully functional.  

Why isn't already in production mode? Well, Amazon takes spamming and phishing very serious, so they do this to prevent spammers from creating multiple accounts to send emails.

Let's get started!

First, click 'Support' in the top right corner and then click 'Support Center'. We need to make our case within, so go ahead and click on 'Create a Case' and fill as much of the information requested as you can.

Don't worry, I'll guide you through the fields.

1. Regarding: Select 'Service Limit Increase'.

2. Limit Type: select 'SES Sending limits' from the dropdown and fill the additional information.

  • Region: Select the AWS region for which you're requesting a sending limit increase. Note that your Amazon SES sandbox status and sending limits are separate for each AWS region.
  • Limit: Choose 'Desired Daily Sending Quota' or 'Desired Maximum Send Rate'. Sending limits are described in the official AWS website. In this example, I’m choosing the maximum send rate. 
  • New limit value: Enter the amount you're requesting. Be sure to only request the amount you think you'll need. Keep in mind that you're not guaranteed to receive the amount you request, and the higher the limit you request, the more justification you'll need to be considered for that amount.

3. Mail Type: Choose the type of content for your campaigns from Transactional, System Notifications, Subscription, Marketing, or Other. I’m choosing 'Marketing' since this is the most common case.

4. Website URL: Although it isn't required, we highly recommend that you provide a link to your website. if you have it, because it helps them evaluate your request.

5. My email-sending complies with their service terms and AUP: Select this if you only send to recipients who have specifically requested your mail. Be honest.

So far this is what you should have:

We're almost done.

6. I only send to recipients who have specifically requested my mail: You definitely should!

7. I have a process to handle bounces and complaints: You should.

8. Use Case Description: Explain your situation in as much detail as possible. Here’s an example:

“I would like to connect my SES account with an email marketing tool that I’m beginning to use (MoonMail). I’d like to move to production mode in order to send campaigns.

I'll use my account to send newsletter email to the people who subscribe through my website, or have purchased my products before.”

9. Support Language: Well… There’s not a lot of options.

10. Contact method: There’s literally only one option. (Bad UX Amazon, bad UX)

Now click Submit. They will respond to the case after reviewing your request. This might take up to 48 hours but they usually reply the same day. If you're granted a sending limit increase, then you have also been moved out of the sandbox and no longer need to verify your "To" addresses.

You're all set! Now go to your MoonMail account and paste the saved credentials into the form you're presented when you log in.
